|
|
Contract Developer PC/Cell phone communications
application
|
|
- Sub-contracted on project with Florida Power and
Light (FPL) to produce a communications program in
Visual Basic for the data collection, monitoring and
analysis of electric transmission line loading.
- Program provided an interface and monitoring
facility using a cellular phone data link to the Valley
Group's CAT-1W data acquisition computer attached to an
electric power transmission tower in central Florida.
- Features included ability to respond to incoming
calls from the CAT-1W notifying the transmission line
operators that a dangerous loading condition is
predicted.
- Additionally, program collected data from and
provided data to FPL's SCADA system via NetDDE.

the Lightning Protection Design Workstation (LPDW)
- Contract awarded by the Electric Power Research
Institute (EPRI).
- Improvements included complete GUI rewrite in
Visual Basic 5.0 with additional calculation work in
C++/Fortran using a Access Database.
- Responsibilities included an ActiveX (OCX) mapping
object that calculated and plotted lightning density
and electric system component locations over geographic
and political boundary reference layers.
- Mapping features included: zoom in/out, panning,
automatic scaling, map source conversion, lightning
density color selection and selected region reporting.
- Sole programmer on team producing Version 3 of LPDW
using Actor (an object oriented Windows development
environment), C, Fortran, and Watcom 4.0 SQL.
- Converted data from Paradox source.

|
IT related experience: Powerbuilder 4.0/Sybase 10
Developer on client/server of the Transmission Line
Information System (TLIS)
|
- Member of development team that reengineered
the line maintenance process to include the use
of:
- GPS enabled pen-based field computers for
inspection, navigation and work documentation
- Automated communications app for field
data retrieval and distribution;
- Desktop client/server app for inspection
data review and work package production.
- Process delivered:
- Paperless time entry, account billing,
and e-mail based contract invoicing
- Comprehensive reliability-driven
maintenance system that reduced inspection
costs by providing detail scheduling of
inspections down to the structure level
- Innovations included:
- Randomizing encryption algorithm for user
passwords
- Automated updates delivered via database
storage of application files (exe's, dll's,
etc.) made possible real-time distribution of
bug fixes and revisions
- Results: High level of satisfied adoption and
user "ownership" of design by the target
blue-collar user group.
